Sex Ed The Musical

Sep 5, 2019

Sex Education has a controversial history in this country.

Deliberate misinformation, scare tactics, religious corruption, institutionalized misogyny, and archaic educational materials are all part of the story.

Sex education isn’t required in every state and even if it is taught in your state, it’s not always required to be factually and technically accurate.

State and Local Legislators Decide What Can Be Taught in Sex Education

Even though it’s been proven conclusively that Abstinence Only Education DOES NOT WORK, there’s a very clear and direct correlation between unintended teen pregnancies and the states with conservative politics that will only teach abstinence.

No abstinence-only-until-marriage program has been shown to have any impact on young people’s behavior.

If you’ve had any institutionalized sex education in this country, there’s a good chance you were taught something wildly inaccurate.

SO I’M CELEBRATING THOSE LIES!

On this episode, I share some of the best worst lies I’ve heard.

I also play clips from this masterpiece: Molly Grows Up.

But Wait, There’s More!

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest provider of sex education, and they are under attack.

Therefore, for every download this episode gets in its first week of release, I will donate $1 to Planned Parenthood, up to $2000. Meaning, if 2000 people download the episode, I’ll donate $2000. It’s that simple.

If you want to match my donation, comment below.

I’ll also be posting daily stats on Instagram @SexEdMusicalPodcast

Correction: I mistakenly state in this episode that 39 states require that abstinence is included in sex education. The actual number is 37 states that require abstinence is included in sex education. I regret the mistake but not as much as I regret abstinence only sex education.
